Where are we going? Our teaching team at White Oak has been praying and working hard to bring to our church family the teaching and messages our Heavenly Father has been leading us to share. I’d like to share with you where and why we’ll be taking the path forward in the coming seasons at WOCC.

We launched the year with a theme teaching and reminding us of God’s sovereignty. He is in control. He is not swayed by outside influence. He has a higher, longer, and fuller view of things than I have.

24 “Sovereign Lord, you have begun to show to your servant your greatness and your strong hand. For what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do the deeds and mighty works you do? -Deut. 3:24

God’s sovereignty paves the way for our trust in him and his Word. This is why we continued in the year talking about the reliability and power of God’s Word.

16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

-2 Timothy 3:16

The Bible is reliable, consistent, and remarkable in its ability, no matter from what book, chapter, or verse we’re reading, to point us to Jesus!

As we continue to grow in our trust in God’s Word, the next place we step into is reading God’s Word for ourselves. We are currently in a series going through the book of Luke. As disciples we want to learn from Jesus to live like Jesus.

Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, 2 just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. 3 With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account… 4 so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught. -Luke 1:1-4

Therefore, we are equipping our church family with weekend teaching, a Luke reading plan, and providing daily podcasts from White Oak partners who share with us their take and challenge from the story of Jesus’s life. Be sure to check out these resources by clicking below.

Leading up to celebrating Easter, we have intentionally set the stage for God’s Sovereignty. Since he is sovereign, his Word is trustworthy. Since his Word is trustworthy, we can trust his Word to lead us to full life in Jesus. So, where are we going next?

Later this spring we will begin a series called That’s a Great Question. In this series we will look at six questions Jesus asked. There is power in asking the right questions. Questions reveal priorities, help us learn, and help us grow. Questions point us in the right direction. Questions help reveal what people believe and push us to discover the truth. We want to learn about Jesus from the questions he asks and learn about our self from the answers we give.

This summer we will spend several weeks studying the Fruit of the Spirit as Paul shares from Galatians 5. God’s sovereign power has much work he wants to do on our hearts through the power of his Spirit!

We are excited to continue to lead our White Oak family on a journey of discovery this year. God is sovereign. He can be trusted to lead us to the full and lasting life which Jesus promises in John 10:10. With each series we teach, my prayer is that we discover more and more our identity as sons and daughters of a good and loving Father in heaven. I pray that we are more equipped to love God’s Word and love one another as a result. I pray that we sense our unique gifting as we lean into deeper steps of trust in God.

Looking forward to what’s ahead,

Nathan
